The Glomesh Purse Story
When I decided that a stock photo of a purse for the book cover was not good enough to be authentic, I had to find the real deal.
So the best place to head to was EBAY and after some searching, I found exactly what I wanted. But so had a few other people, and it was a bidding frenzy which I finally won.
Australia Post delivered the package to my home, inside a plastic envelope.
I had to work my way through the well protected bubble wrap, which indicated that some-one had gone to a bit of trouble to package this well.
As I finally got through un-wrapping the last of the plastic, I found the original Glomesh box for the purse including the item number sticker.
Once the top was removed, the gold coloured Glomesh purse was revealed inside another plastic bag complete with the tags, which surprised me.
Although the EBAY ad did say it was new, it had been quite a number of years since these purses were available in the shops. This particular one looked as if it had never even been used.
I gently removed the purse from the box and slid it out of it’s plastic bag. I wondered why it seemed to be so bulky. I opened the clasp to reveal the original tissue paper stuffed inside it to maintain the shape of the purse. This truly was brand new! And I felt quite chuffed with my luck to be able to get this purse in such great condition.
Then I noticed this note in the bottom of the box, and realised why it was still brand new.
At this point I felt a real connection and perhaps somewhat blessed that I had been so lucky to be able to be the successful bidder.
Some people would say it was meant to be, but you can be the judge of that.
I contacted Andrew, the person who had sold this purse. It held an emotional place in his heart.
And when I told him the reason as to why I had bought the purse and that it would eventually be passed on to another woman, he was comfortable knowing it was for a good purpose.
I am sure the lady who wins this purse as part of the first prize will cherish it as much as did Andrew and his mother who kept it as a reminder of her daughter.
Ultimately, the first prize money can always be spent and enjoyed and talked about.
But it is the value of memories of those dearest to us which lives on in our hearts and minds forever.
Not every person can win first prize, but every person is a winner in their own hearts.
